Ernie Gonzales


Ernie Gonzales is an audio engineer, musician, and producer with a career spanning live sound, studio work, and music education. Ernie began his music career at the age of 13, performing on the diatonic accordion in the Texas music scene. In 1993, he founded Grupo Alamo, a Tejano recording group, and in 1999, he opened Reel Tracks Studio in San Antonio, which has since received multiple Recording Academy nominations.

Gonzales has worked both on stage and behind the console as a systems engineer, FOH tech, and FOH engineer. He toured with George Strait from 2008 to 2017 and has worked with Martina McBride since 2018.

He has earned two Latin Grammy Awards as a recording engineer: for Juan Trevino’s Para Empezar A Amar (2023) and La Mafia’s Live in Mexico (2020). His additional Latin Grammy nominations include projects with Grupo Alamo, Jay Perez, and Los Hermanos Farias. He has also received two American Grammy nominations, including one for Stefani Montiel’s “Divina” (2009) and another for Jay Perez’s “Mi Destino” (2004).

Gonzales served as a governor for the Recording Academy Texas Chapter from 2012 to 2016 and again from 2017 to 2022. Since 2019, he has been an instructor at The Blackbird Academy in Nashville, TN.
