These 12 high school students just spent three days tracking, mixing, and learning on some of the best gear on the planet!

Day 1 was a strong kickoff to our July session! The students got a feel for studio etiquette, a tour of the studio spaces, and covered the basics of setting up a session. Studio etiquette is a major principle of the Blackbird curriculum and will give these students a headstart as they start their careers. On the technical side, campers set up their gear and organized the recording space in record time to prepare for Day 2!

Day 2 meant quality time in Studio A! These high school students had the opportunity to track a full band and record their newly-formed camp band. Once again, recording artist Jonell Mosser brought her wisdom and talent to the camp experience and gave it her all during the morning recording session. Jonell is a total pro, and campers were lucky enough to work with her for a few hours!

After lunch, it was time for these students to apply what they’ve learned to record their takes on some of their favorite songs. They started with a classic – “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears for Fears – before transitioning to the recent TikTok sensation and 2021 Grammy highlight “Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s R&B supergroup). What a jam-packed day of studio time!

Day 3 was time for campers to put in some work in Studios E & F  working on overdubs and mixing.
